The BMW 5 Series has always offered a classy combination of comfort, luxury, and sporty performance. With the 2025 BMW i5, BMW has a worthy, all-electric entry in the same niche. Impressive EV torque, tech integration, and comfortable interior appointments create a satisfying package. BMW has also put together a network of charging partners that should make any worries about charging access on the go evaporate.

Widescreen Control

The i5 boasts a sweeping screen that incorporates both gauges and infotainment controls. BMW’s integrated tech system offers diversion during charging and other waiting times as well, with a full suite of streaming options and video games to keep you occupied. The 12-speaker, 205-watt Harman Kardon Premium Sound System makes for an immersive sound experience.

The BMW Charging Advantage

BMW provides a network of more than 150,000 public charging stations, one of the largest in North America. BMW and Electrify America provide complimentary charging on Electrify America’s public network, as well. The My BMW App integrates multiple charging partners into a continent-spanning network. Its cloud-based navigation highlights charging stations and other amenities along your route.

There are options at home, too. The car can be charged using a normal 120-volt outlet or with an installed 240-volt Level 2 charging station to take advantage of its entire 11kW capacity. The i5 eDrive40 has a range of up to 310 miles.

Energy Recuperation

The i5 utilizes regenerative braking in two modes. Select “D” for a more traditional braking experience. Sensors dynamically determine the ideal amount of regenerative braking. Active driving position “B” sets the recuperative braking to maximum, slowing the car as soon as the throttle is released. This allows for single-pedal driving in urban traffic, potentially not needing the brake pedal at all.

Driver Assistance That’s Ahead of the Curve

Sensors and GPS navigation information combine to gather and display useful information like speed limits, vehicle proximity, and blindspot warnings. More advanced systems intervene when dangerous situations arise, twisting the wheel, applying the brakes, or adjusting the throttle. There are also multiple levels of assisted cruise control, from maintaining speed and distance with limited help maintaining your lane to full-on hands-free highway driving.

BMW ConnectedDrive

Through the My BMW App, BMW’s ConnectedDrive system, you have control over your vehicle even when you aren’t in it. You can lock and unlock the doors, precondition the interior by turning on the climate control, and start the vehicle with BMW Digital Key. It also keeps you abreast of your car’s status, such as tire pressure and battery charge, and informs you of any necessary maintenance.
